The\u00a0Emergency Respite Voucher Program<\/strong>\u00a0provides temporary, short-term financial assistance to caregivers who experience an unexpected emergency that temporarily disrupts their ability to provide care. The program helps caregivers access respite services so they can address an urgent situation, recover from an unforeseen circumstance, or ensure their loved one continues to receive appropriate care.<\/p>

This program is intended for\u00a0family caregivers of individuals with disabilities, chronic illnesses, or other conditions requiring ongoing care.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

IMPORTANT PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS<\/h1>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

  • Emergency Respite Vouchers\u00a0\u00a0provide\u00a0short-term respite services\u00a0and are not intended to cover the total cost of an emergency or provide ongoing financial assistance.<\/strong><\/li>
  • Emergency Respite Vouchers are only for\u00a0respite-based\u00a0<\/b>emergencies.\u00a0They cannot be used to pay utility bills, rent, mortgage payments, transportation costs, or other household expenses.<\/strong><\/li>
  • An Emergency Respite Voucher is available only to caregivers who:
    • \u00a0have\u00a0not<\/b>\u00a0been awarded a Regular Respite Voucher within the current fiscal year.<\/li>
    • do\u00a0not<\/b>\u00a0currently have Regular Respite Voucher funds available in the caregiver portal<\/li>
    • have\u00a0not<\/b>\u00a0been awarded an Emergency Respite Voucher within the current fiscal year.<\/li><\/ul><\/li>
    • There is a cooldown period of 12<\/strong>\u00a0months\u00a0<\/b>between receiving an Emergency Respite Voucher and receiving a Regular Respite Voucher, or vice versa.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

      What Constitutes An Emergency?<\/h1>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
      \n\t\t\t\t
      \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

      An \u201cemergency\u201d is a\u00a0sudden, unexpected situation that requires the immediate attention of the caregiver and temporarily prevents or significantly interferes with their ability to provide care.<\/strong>\u00a0Examples of qualifying emergencies may include, but are not limited to:<\/p>

      • Medical Emergencies:<\/strong>\u00a0The caregiver or care recipient experiences a sudden health crisis requiring urgent medical attention, hospitalization, or immediate care.<\/li>
      • Family Crisis:<\/strong>\u00a0An unexpected death in the family, serious illness or injury of a close family member, or an unforeseen need to travel because of a family emergency.<\/li>
      • Personal Crisis:<\/strong>\u00a0The caregiver experiences a significant personal crisis, severe stress, or burnout that requires immediate attention and a temporary break from caregiving responsibilities. This must include a doctor note that details the mental condition and recommendation for rest and renewal.\u00a0<\/li>
      • Housing Emergencies:<\/strong>\u00a0Unexpected damage to the caregiver’s home, loss of housing, or another urgent situation that temporarily makes the home unsafe or unsuitable for providing care.\u00a0Emergency Voucher funds cannot be used to pay for housing repairs, rent, mortgage payments, or other housing expenses. The funds are to be used to hire a respite provider to care for your care recipient in your absence.<\/strong><\/li>
      • Natural Disasters:<\/strong>\u00a0Sudden events such as floods, severe storms, fires, or other disasters that temporarily affect the caregiver’s living situation or ability to provide care.<\/li><\/ul>


        Please note:<\/strong>\u00a0An emergency must be related to an immediate and unexpected disruption in the caregiver’s ability to provide care. The Emergency Respite Voucher is intended to pay for\u00a0respite services only<\/strong>\u00a0and cannot be used to resolve or pay for the emergency itself, including utility bills or other household expenses.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

        How to Apply:<\/h1>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

        Caregivers requesting an Emergency Respite Voucher must complete the application and provide information about the emergency and their current caregiving situation. Applications will be reviewed to determine whether the situation meets the program’s eligibility requirements and whether the caregiver meets all other program requirements.<\/p>\n

        Applicants should be prepared to explain:<\/p>\n

          \n
        • The unexpected emergency they are experiencing.<\/li>\n
        • How the emergency is affecting their ability to provide care.<\/li>\n
        • Why temporary respite services are needed.<\/li>\n
        • The type and amount of respite support being requested. ($600 Maximum)<\/li>\n
        • Confirmation the caregiver does not have an approved Regular Respite Voucher pending in the system or available funds within the same year as the request.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
